Abstract:
Spatial Evolutionary Modeling, part of the Spatial Information Systems Series, demonstrates why evolutionary-based modeling should be an integral part of any GIS analytical 'tool box'. The first two sections serve as a guide to the evolutionary modeling of spatial phenomena, introducing basic concepts and detailing the working principles behind evolutionary models. How evolutionary algorithms can best be used is clarified and common misconceptions and misunderstandings about evolutionary modeling are corrected. The third section, written by experts in the field, offers demonstrations and illustrations of how evolutionary models may be applied to real-world spatial problems.
