Abstract:
This collection of 30 articles presents research results, in the field of light metal alloys, grouped into 3 chapters. Chapter I presents subjects related to the manufacture of aluminum alloys, grain refinement and welded joints. It also presents the results of investigations into manufacturing methods for, and the properties of, aluminium-matrix composites. Chapter II presents the results of research carried out on conventional and new magnesium casting-alloys. The first group of articles covers the effects of modification upon the structure and properties of casting alloys. The following papers present research results on the plastic deformation of Mg alloys. Subsequent articles cover topics related to welding technologies, and the final part of the chapter concerns magnesium-matrix composites. The results of research carried out on new generations of titanium alloys are presented in Chapter III, which includes investigations of the microstructure and properties of Ti-Al based alloys. The possibilities of heat-treatment and diffusion-brazing of Ti alloys are also discussed.Review from Book News Inc.: This collection of 30 invited, peer-reviewed papers presents the results of research on new and conventional casting magnesium alloys, plastic deformation of Mg alloys, welding technologies, and magnesium matrix composites. There is also research on the microstructure, properties, heat treatment, and diffusion brazing of the new generation of titanium alloys. Papers are organized in sections on manufacture of aluminum alloys, grain refinement, welding joints, and aluminum matrix composites. Some specific topics include the machinability of aluminum matrix composites, creep resistance of WE43 magnesium alloy joints, and characteristics of corrosion resistance of Ti-C alloys. The book is illustrated with b&w photos and images.
