Abstract:
This report investigates the feasibility, suitability and benefits of Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems (IVHS) in Arizona. The report identifies travelers needs in each of four IVHS areas: Advanced Traveler Information Systems (ATIS), Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), Automatic Vehicle Control Systems (AVCS) and Fleet Management and Control Systems (FMCS). An assessment of the state-of-the-art technologies to meet these needs is presented within the context of an international review of IVHS related initiatives.
