Abstract:
Collection of selected, peer reviewed papers from the 8th Japanese-Mediterranean Workshop on Applied Electromagnetic Engineering for Magnetic, Superconducting, Multifunctional and Nano Materials, June 23-26, 2013, Athen, Greece. The 59 papers are grouped as follows: I. Advanced Materials and Magnetohydrodynamics, II. Advanced Applications, III. Magnetic Material Manufacturing and Characterization, IV. Computational Electromagnetics, V. Applications in Traction and Energy, VI. Electrical Machine Technology Sixty papers from the June 2013 workshop present recent research on magnetohydrodynamics, high-temperature superconductors, computational electromagnetics, magnetic material manufacturing, and electrical machine technology. The contributors measure dynamic pressure changes in two-layer sloshing between a magnetic fluid and silicone oil, enhance the sensitivity of resonance type eddy current testing, develop an ultra-thin octagonal microwave absorber, and analyze crosstalk in nanoscale interconnects and nanocomposite laminates. Applications in traction and energy propose a semi-active tuned magnetic fluid column damper, a tubular linear synchronous machine shock absorber, a simple dynamic model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell, and a parametric design procedure for marine electrical machines. - Electromagnetism. - Materials science. - Physics.
