Abstract:
“Resilient Leadership: When Failure is Not an Option" is a practical guide to improving leadership in the face of adversity. The book has its basis in the authors' combined experience in stress and leadership management in the midst of major disasters such as Hurricane Katrina and the invasion of Kuwait, and business leadership through difficult times such as those we are now experiencing. The book is targeted to business owners and entrepreneurs, corporate officers, and middle and upper level managers. It is the only leadership book based upon the science of human resilience, organized as six key principles that can be integrated into daily work. Each chapter includes a key point summary, and each of the 6 "lessons" includes a leadership assessment section. The foundations of resilient leadership are strength and honor…the courage to act, the willingness to take responsibility for decisions regardless of outcome, and the ability to engender trust and fidelity through a consistent pattern of acting with integrity. Resilient leadership helps us rebound in the wake of adversity. The leader who instills resilience is the leader who encourages us during crisis, when times are most troubled and when we doubt our own abilities. Resilient leadership inspires us to go places we would never have gone and to attempt things we never would have dared on our own. Those who instill resilience can be managers, friends, mentors, teachers, coaches, and even parents. This book is designed to help you, no matter what role you play in life, practice the principles of resilient leadership. The book is organized into six core principles: following the moral compass of integrity; the power of communication, the power of optimism and the self-fulfilling prophecy; perseverance and taking responsibility for your actions; building a resilient culture, and physical health as

a competitive advantage.
