Abstract:
The 26 peer-reviewed papers collected here together offer a plenitude of up-to-date information on "Materials Challenges for Future Nuclear Fission and Fusion Technologies". The papers are conveniently arranged into MATERIALS CHALLENGES FOR FUTURE NUCLEAR FISSION AND FUSION TECHNOLOGIES, Low Activation Structural Materials for Nuclear Fusion Systems, Functional, Cladding and Fuel Materials for Nuclear Fission Reactors, Radiation Effects, MATERIALS TECHNOLOGY FOR NUCLEAR WASTE TREATMENT AND DISPOSAL.This special volume has also been published online in the series, "Advances in Science and Technology" Vol. 74 via www.scientific.net.Review from Book News Inc.: This one of five volumes documenting the Forum presents 17 papers from the symposium of the title. They cover low activation structural materials for nuclear fusion systems; functional cladding, and fuel materials for nuclear fission reactors; and radiator effects. Among specific topics are tungsten as a structural divertor material, from high to low enriched uranium fuel in research reactors, and geometrical aspects of dislocation-obstacle interaction in iron. Included here are also nine papers from the focused session on materials technology for nuclear waste treatment and disposal; among them are new actinidex waste forms with pyrochlore and garnet structures, and using the vitrification test rig for process improvements on the waste vitrification plants.
