Abstract:
Today Information System became one of the strategic recourses of an enterprise. Every business as well as business function is influenced by the information system. Information system has tremendously changed the rules of the game. The advent of computing as well as communication technology has overpowered the way business activities are carried out today. The information systems have offered number of advantages in data collection, processing, presentation, communication, storage, retrieval and search etc. On one had it is catering to the smaller needs of smaller business such as an accounting packages like Tally or ex, on the other hand complex system like ERP, SAP are taking care of the huge resource of the bigger firms. Not only IT has provided the simple day to day transaction processing solutions but also it has of statistical and operations research models. Any information system be it a small or big, simple or complex, it invariably does a single task; to convert a data into information through processing. How does information system does it all, what technologies it uses, what advantages if offers to business managers etc. is the subject matter of this book. Management Information System is an integral part of any management education curriculum, as one of the core subject. The students pursuing the management courses come from wide variety of disciplines. And therefore based on his pervious exposure to technical concepts, he finds difficulty in understanding the subject by varying degrees. And further he follows an approach of "to just get thru" rather than understanding it in its real sense. Therefore the author felt that a text on MIS should be a proper mix of discussion of theory, technical concepts and orientation must be of managerial applications. The text should cater to the need of must B grade aspirants rather than a

conceptual bible on the subject. Author has taken care of these aspects while working on this book. The book is an attempt to make the things look bit simple and easy to understand. However a care has been taken to keep proper balance of theory with technical data along with examples and diagrams for the easy grasp of the subject. This book do not aim at making the reader an expert in information systems but to make him aware about the power of information systems, its role in business, acquaint him with technical concepts and more importantly how he can leverage the knowledge of information systems in his managerial activities. The author has followed a simple rule-KISS-keep it small, simple.
