Abstract:
Die Erforschung der Geschichte des antiken Israel im Kulturkontext des Vorderen Orients erfolgt auf der Grundlage des vielschichtigen literarischen und archäologischen Quellenmaterials. Der vorliegende Band führt neueste bibelwissenschaftliche und archäologische Forschungsergebnisse zusammen und wertet sie für die staatlichen Anfänge Israels unter David und Salomo (‛One Nation') sowie für die Geschichte des Kultes in Israel (‛One Cult') aus. Die politischen und kulturellen Wechselbeziehungen werden anhand der antiken Stadt Beth She'an/Scythopolis veranschaulicht und in ihrer Bedeutung für den Wandel des Gottesbildes (‛One God') problematisiert. Der Sammelband enthält siebzehn englischsprachige Beiträge von international anerkannten Forschern aus Israel, Finnland und Deutschland.
