Abstract:
Collection of selected, peer reviewed papers from the 22nd International Baltic Conference of Engineering Materials & Tribology (BALTMATTRIB 2013), November 14-15, 2013, Riga, Latvia. The 72 papers are grouped as follows: Chapter 1: Coatings and Surface Engineering, Chapter 2: Material Mechanics and Tribology, Chapter 3: Functional Materials, Chapter 4: Structural Materials, Chapter 5: Biomaterials Engineering and Application, Chapter 6: Materials for Energy and Environmental Applications, Chapter 7: Powder synthesis and Processing, Chapter 8: Materials Characterization, Chapter 9: Hybrid Materials. Seventy-one papers from the November 2013 conference present recent research on engineering materials from Lithuania, powder technology and advanced materials from Latvia, and powders, coatings, and tribology from Estonia. The contributors compare the abrasive wear resistance of metal matrix coatings, the fatigue of case-hardened and plasma-nitrided layers under rolling contact stress, the sorption properties of alkali and acidic Latvian illite clays, and ferromagnetic sorbents for the collection of oil products. Other topics include composites for cheese whey anaerobic digestion, thermal insulation made from natural fibers, bioactivity of silver doped hydroxyapatite scaffolds in simulated body fluids, and a woven textile moisture sensor for enuresis alarm treatment. - Composite materials. - Inorganic materials. - Materials science. - Organic materials. - Surfaces.
