Abstract:
The 64 peer-reviewed papers collected here together offer a plenitude of up-to-date information on "Novel Routes for Ceramics Synthesis and Processing". The papers are conveniently arranged into the SOFT SOLUTION PROCESSING, SPARK PLASMA AND MICROWAVE SYNTHESIS AND SINTERING, HYBRID MATERIALS, POROUS CERAMICS, SHS CERAMICS, SHS of Ceramic Powders, Fabrication of SHS Products and Application Issues, LAYERED AND FUNCTIONALLY GRADED MATERIALS, OTHER PROCESSING ROUTES.This special volume has also been published online in the series, "Advances in Science and Technology" Vol. 63 via www.scientific.net.Review from Book News Inc.: The symposium identified in the title covered soft solution processing, spark plasma and microwave synthesis and sintering, hybrid materials, and porous ceramics. The volume also documents two focused sessionson the self-propagating high-temperature synthesis of ceramics, and layered and functionally graded materials. The topics include tailored silica-based xerogels and aerogels for insulation in space environments, producing and characterizing boron carbide-titanium diboride ceramics by spark plasma sintering, lightweight hybrid foam with dimensional stability, fabricating porous silicon nitride by the sacrificing template method, the carbon combustion synthesis of ceramic oxide nanopowders, layered alumina ceramics with porosity steps, and lithium disilicate glass-ceramic obtained from silica in rice husks. This is the second of 10 volumes of proceedings.
