Abstract:
The report addresses the partial removal of concrete from decks and other parts of bridge structures. Three technologies are identified as being of particular importance and these are studied in detail: pneumatic breakers, milling and hydrodemolition. The detailed analysis of the 3 technologies is done in a uniform format addressing work characteristics, production, cost and quality of product. This permits a comparative analysis of the 3 technologies and makes it possible to identify their strengths and weaknesses and to make recommendations with regard to the manner in which they can be combined to achieve a desired result.
