Abstract:
Hot recycling of asphaltic concrete pavements has received considerable attention from the highway industry during the past several years. This type of recycling usually involves removing a pavement, full or partial depth; reducing the salvaged asphaltic concrete to an appropriate size; reprocessing the sized material along with additional virgin aggregate, salvaged base aggregate, asphalt cement, and/or an asphalt rejuvenating agent through a hot-mix plant; and relaying the resultant mix as a base, binder, or surface course. Hot recycling is one of several alternative maintenance procedures which should be considered for the rehabilitation or reconstruction of asphaltic concrete pavements.
