The story of James J. Braddock, a destitute prizefighter who is forced into retirement after a string of losses. During the darkest years of the Great Depression Braddock must accept any job to support his wife Mae and their three children. A last minute cancellation finds Braddock, dubbed the Cinderella man back in the ring at Madison Square Garden as the challenger to the world heavyweight champion Max Baer.
