Abstract:
The objective of this demonstration project was to evaluate the hot-mix recyling process as a method of renovating a badly cracked and otherwise deteriorated section of road-mixed bituminous paving in southwestern Kansas. The equipment used on the project included a cold milling machine to reclaim the upper portion of existing pavement; a drum dryer hot-mix plant modified to process the material; and other standard hot-mix laydown and compaction machines. Analysis and comparison of the costs of this recycling project (cold milling 4" and replace with 8" hot recycled mix and 0.75" BM-1) was made to other reconstruction methods.
