Abstract:
In China, the amount of deteriorating bridges is increasing gradually, andthe costs of maintenance, repair and rehabilitation of these bridges farexceed available budgets. Internationally, above issue also is paid moreattention. To alleviate this issue, the bridge engineering professioncontinues to take positive steps towards developing more comprehensivebridge monitoring and management systems. Therefore, it is significant tocombine some good works that have been done in this field, which is theoriginal objective to introduce the recent research results in the fields of bridge health monitoring, bridge maintenance and safety in the mainland of China. This project encompasses some aspects of bridge health monitoring, maintenance and safety. Specifically, it deals with: bridge health monitoring; bridge repair andrehabilitation issues; bridge related safety and other implications. As China's infrastructure expands, there has been little correspondingexpansion in assessing its deterioration and maintenance needs. In many cases, the costs far exceed available funds earmarked for testing, upkeep, and repair.Intended for civil engineers and infrastructure policy makers and researchers, in this collection of peer reviewed papers the authors examine efforts tomonitor and maintain bridge infrastructure in China. The authors look at steps Chinese civil engineering professionals are taking to address the deterioratingstate of China's bridges, and create a systematic approach to assessing their condition, maintenance, and repair. - Civil engineering -- China. - Construction -- China. - Infrastructure -- China. - Infrastructure -- Safety -- China.
