Abstract:
Until the First World War, universities in Canada were dedicated primarily to liberal education and professors invested most of their energy in teaching and the preparation of courses. Today, universities have been transformed to serve a new generation of scholars devoted to research. Yves Gingras explores this transformation through a study of the development of the physics community in Canada.
