Abstract:
The special collection discusses recent results of research and development in the field of materials engineering, experimental methods, modeling, etc., with the aim to characterize mechanical properties of materials from nano to micro/meso-scale. Contributions on indentation and other methods for hardness and other mechanical properties assessment, measurement of deformations and stresses, time-dependent mechanical properties with related microstructure analyses (TEM/SEM, AFM, TERS, etc.) regardless of material type (metals, ceramics, plastics, biomaterials, concrete, etc.) are included. The conference focuses on recent results of research and development in materials engineering, experimental methods, modeling, and other fields in order to characterize mechanical properties of materials from nano to micro/meso scales. The invited lecture discusses characterizing polypropylene staple yarns by acoustic dynamic modulus. Other topics of the 64 selected papers include the influence of loading conditions on the deformation behavior of human enamel studied by instrumented indentation, using microhardness to determine the fracture stress of ultra-high-strength ribbons, mechanical properties of the interface in heterogeneous diffusion welds on titanium and austenitic steel, a modulus mapping test to characterize the interphase in polymeric composite reinforced by carbon fiber, and verifying a numerical model for trabecular tissue using a compression test and time-lapse X-ray radiography based on a material model determined from a three-point bending test of a single trabecula.
