Abstract
:
Zirconia is used in many industrial areas due to its superior properties, but the instability of phase stabilization creates a disadvantage in areas requiring high performance. Yttria is known as a strong stabilizer for ceramics. As a result, scientists decided to stabilize zirconia with yttria. In this study, by going beyond traditional methods, the aim was to produce stabilized zirconia by obtaining yttria from yttrium salt using the zirconia precipitation method of zirconia. The aim of using the precipitation method is to obtain yttria-stabilized zirconia with a smaller grain size, more homogeneous appearance, and less porosity compared to other production methods. In addition, thanks to the precipitation method, 2% yttria-added zirconia, which could not be produced before, was produced and subjected to a sintering process at 1600 degrees. The phase transition temperature of 1170 degrees during the sintering process was one of the most important points of this study. The main purpose of this study is to reveal the advantages of the precipitation method in the production of yttria-stabilized zirconia and to improve the material properties. Using the precipitation method, 2% yttria-stabilized zirconia production was carried out and the improvements in material properties of this method were demonstrated. In addition, the advantages of the precipitation method, such as small grain size, low porosity, and homogeneous structure, were emphasized.
